Google recently announced plans to develop a new data center in LaGrange, GA anchored by a commitment to partner with the local community to build infrastructure the right way. Alongside the new facility, Google is making long-term investments in local energy affordability and environmental stewardship to create lasting benefits for LaGrange residents. This new funding stream will allow Groundswell’s SOUL® (Save On Utilities Long-term) program to be expanded.
Investing in Local Energy Affordability
As part of its commitment to LaGrange, Google is providing $1 million to support Groundswell’s SOUL program. This funding will deliver critical home safety and efficiency upgrades for local seniors and families, helping to lower energy costs and improve resilience.
“Google’s $1 million contribution will support critical home repairs and energy efficiency upgrades for at least 50 LaGrange families, providing long-term energy bill relief and preserving home ownership,” said Michelle Moore, Groundswell CEO. “We appreciate Google’s commitment to being a good neighbor, and we’re honored to work alongside them to build a more affordable energy future for LaGrange.”
Groundswell's SOUL program was also the recipient of a 2024-25 Drawdown Georgia Climate Solutions and Equity Grant, which enabled the City of LaGrange and Groundswell to provide energy efficiency upgrades for 50 homes in Troup County.
