In Memoriam - Pat Anderson (1934-2014)

It is with great sadness that the Ray C. Anderson Foundation reports the passing of Pat Anderson, Ray Anderson's wife of 27 years, and Foundation Trustee.  Her passion and presence will be sorely missed.

Pat stood by Ray and watched and supported him as he became an inspiration to the world.   While many were familiar with how Ray's vision changed Interface and the other companies that followed their lead, no one other than Pat had the full understanding of how deeply the sustainability vision changed Ray - the man.

"She was the home fire that made it possible for my dad to do what he did," said Mary Anne Lanier, Ray's daughter and Foundation Trustee.  "She was the perfect helpmate for Ray's vision."

Pat shared Ray's passion for the environment, nurturing a specific concern for the plight of wildlife.  Her passion for wildlife and Ray's passion for the global ecosystem led them to build their off the grid mountain home, Lost Valley, where nearly 90% of the 86-acre property is designated as a "forever wild" conservation easement.

Pat was quoted in 2012 at the Foundation re-launch as saying, "The dream and hope of the Foundation is taking shape and building momentum through the eyes of Ray's daughters, Mary Anne and Harriet. My hope and belief is that they will always have the energy and drive they have now to continue the legacy.”
